Bin collections start from 5.30am on Monday and Tuesday

bins

Bin collections across Broxtowe will start from 5.30am on Monday July 18 and Tuesday July 19, instead of their usual 6.30am start times to reduce the Council’s Refuse team’s exposure to the forecast extreme weather conditions.

Residents in the Borough should therefore ensure their bins scheduled for collection on either day are placed on the edge of their properties before 5.30am on these days to ensure they are collected.

It follows a red weather warning on both days across the region that could see temperatures reach 37°c.

The earlier starts will help the teams to get more bins emptied in the morning before the temperatures peak later in the day and is in line with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) advice for outdoor working.

The Council would like to thank residents for their support.

Looking after yourself and others in hot weather

heat safety

Much of the advice on beating the heat is common sense. Before hot weather arrives, it is good to think about what you can do to protect yourself, your family and friends from heat.

For some people, especially older people and those with underlying health conditions, the summer heat can bring real health risks. Temperatures indoors can be higher than outdoors. That’s why we’re urging everyone to keep an eye on those you know who may be at risk this summer. If you’re able, ask if your friends, family or neighbours need any support.

The top ways for staying safe when the heat arrives are to:

Look out for those who may struggle to keep themselves cool and hydrated. Older people, those with underlying conditions and those who live alone are particularly at risk.

  • Close curtains on rooms that face the sun to keep indoor spaces cooler and remember it may be cooler outdoors than indoors.
  • Use cool spaces if going outdoors.
  • Drink plenty of fluids and avoid excess alcohol.
  • Never leave anyone in a parked vehicle, especially infants, young children, vulnerable adults, or animals.
  • Try to keep out of the sun between 11am – 3pm, when UV rays are strongest.
  • If you have to go outside in the heat, walk in the shade, apply sunscreen and wear a wide-brimmed hat.
  • Avoid physical exertion during the hottest parts of the day.
  • Make sure you take water with you if you are travelling.
  • During warm weather, going for a swim can provide much welcomed relief. If you are going into open water to cool-down, take care and follow local safety advice.

£21.1m Stapleford Towns Fund regeneration projects get underway

funding

In March, it was announced that Stapleford was one of 100 towns to receive a share of the Government’s £3.6bn Towns Deal for urban regeneration planning and land use, skills and enterprise infrastructure, and connectivity.

Stapleford residents, workers and businesses have worked hard to understand the challenges and aspirations of the town and what it needs now, and in the future, to become a model for what a small town can achieve.

The £21.1m funding is being invested in six core projects:

  1. Community hub and young people’s centre
  2. Enterprise hub building
  3. Library learning facility
  4. Safer cycling scheme
  5. Street improvement scheme
  6. £1m Town Centre Recovery Grant Scheme

The festival will take place on Saturday 6 August at Pasture Road Recreation Ground, Stapleford between 12.00pm and 3.00pm.

Our Green festivals are free to attend. There will be environmentally-themed stalls along with nature activities for all ages to take part in and a variety of organisations to meet and speak with.

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund

The UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF or the Fund) is a central pillar of the UK government’s ambitious Levelling Up agenda and a significant component of its support for places across the UK.

It provides £2.6 billion of new funding for local investment by March 2025, with all areas of the UK receiving an allocation from the Fund via a funding formula rather than a competition. It will help places right across the country deliver enhanced outcomes and recognises that even the most affluent parts of the UK contain pockets of deprivation and need support.

Places will be empowered to identify and build on their own strengths and needs at a local level, focused on pride in place and increasing life chances.
