During the Jubilee bank holiday weekend (taking place between 2 – 5 June), there will be no changes to bin collections. Your bin will be emptied on its normal collection day.

You can find out more by viewing your bin calendar online.

What goes in the Green-lidded bin?

Contamination levels within the green lidded bins have increased significantly over the last year. On average over 13% of the material put in the recycling bin (Broxtowe 2021/22) is incorrect. The vast majority of this is due to unwanted plastics. When it comes to recycling plastics, the following is acceptable: Plastic bottles Margarine/butter tubs Yoghurt pots Plastic bottle tops Various food packaging may indicate their product packaging is recyclable, however it is best to go along with the guidance on this e-mail on what is recyclable for Broxtowe. The bin stickers are the most accurate way to see what can go into your green lidded bin. All other types of plastic need to go in the black-lidded bin. If you are still unsure about whether an item can go in the green bin please read these FAQs on plastic or view our Waste A-Z guide where you can find out how to dispose of any item.

Garden waste stickers

If you’re subscribed to our garden waste collection service, please make sure your current subscription sticker is attached to your garden waste bin. This helps our teams to quickly determine which bins have a subscription. The sticker should be fixed to the back of the bin just below the handles. Any bins placed out for collection without a sticker will not be emptied. Please contact waste@broxtowe.gov.uk if you have subscribed but have not yet received your sticker.

Glass Collections

If you’re hosting a jubilee party over the bank holiday weekend, you may find you have more glass to recycle than usual. If you want to recycle glass items, they need to be placed in either Broxtowe glass bags or the red-lidded bin.

Households can have up to 4 bags for free – alternatively you can purchase a red-lidded bin for £30. Please remember to not overfill the glass collection bags – there is a “fill line” on the bag for guidance. Find out more
