Thank you to everyone who has already donated to our Ukraine Appeal – your donations will help those who have been affected during the crisis.

If you haven’t already donated, there’s still time for you to support the Humanitarian Aid Work that is taking place in Ukraine and the town of Myszkow, Poland who are experiencing an influx of refugees due to being close to the Ukrainian border.

You can make a money donation through our official JustGiving page or help us by donating items such as:

  • pasta
  • fruit juices
  • baby food
  • sugar biscuits
  • canned meat, fish and vegetables

These can be dropped off at our Council Offices in Beeston.

You can find out more via our Support For Ukraine webpage.

Queen’s Platinum Jubilee 2022

platinum jubilee

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee is only a couple of weeks away.

If you have any memories of the Queen during her reign we’d love to hear about them – please submit them to our online Jubilee memories message book.

We’d also love to hear from you if you have any photos of what Broxtowe looked like in 1952 and any stories to share relating to The Queen – for example if you’ve ever attended a Queen’s garden party. Please send your photos and stories to us via press@broxtowe.gov.uk.

Along with the events that are taking place across the Borough next month there will also be street parties going ahead – if you’re having a street party let us know at press@broxtowe.gov.uk and we’ll give your street a shout out.

Dementia Action Week 2022

dementia action

Dementia Action/Awareness Week is an annual event which was founded by The Alzheimer’s Society. It is taking place this week between 16 – 22 May and the theme for this year is ‘Diagnosis’.

The purpose of this theme is for people to recognise if themselves or someone they know is showing potential symptoms of dementia. Early symptoms include:

  • memory loss
  • difficulty concentrating
  • finding it hard to carry out familiar daily tasks
  • struggling to follow a conversation
  • confusion over time and place

An early diagnosis of dementia can help a person to better identify the type of dementia they have and learn what they can do to manage their symptoms.

Have you been taking part in The Big Plastic Count 2022?

bpc

The Big Plastic Count is currently taking place between 16-22 May – participants across the UK have been getting involved by tallying up the plastic items they’ve thrown away over the week. If you have not been taking part, it’s not too late to sign up and start counting.

The Big Plastic Count is an initiative created by Greenpeace and they plan to use the figures to make the government, supermarkets and other organisations aware of the scale of the UK’s plastic crisis.

It does not matter if you haven’t signed up yet – even if you sign up and start counting now you will still be making a difference.
