Darren Henry’s Update on 7th August 2021

Job Fair

I am delighted to be able to advertise my Job Fair on Friday 24th September 2021 – the first of its kind in Broxtowe. Kindly sponsored by Boots UK and delivered in collaboration with Beeston and Heanor Job Centres, this event is open to all Broxtowe constituents. The event will provide local jobseekers with the opportunity to meet with both regional and national employers with a range of jobs and apprenticeships on offer. Courtesy of the National Careers Service, there will also be a CV Clinic at the event offering a personalised CV assessment. Please ensure you bring printed copies of your CV with you to the event. Attendees will be able to travel for free to and from the event on Tramlink services and selected Trent Barton bus routes.
On Tuesday I attended a virtual meeting with staff from the local job centres to discuss the plans for the event. As we recover from the pandemic, I fully understand that there remains some uncertainty about employment opportunities, particularly amongst our younger generations. I am excited for this event and hope it will offer anybody in Broxtowe who is looking for employment the chance to meet a range of great local employers.

Meetings and Visits

Last Saturday morning I attended the Sustainable Stapleford Event which was run by Stapleford Town Council. I got the chance to meet with Nottingham EV Owners Club. It is great to see groups like this active here in Broxtowe as we play our part in tackling the climate crisis. I also visited the Carnegie Civic and Community Centre where I met with both the Town Mayor, Cllr Simon Frost and the Leader of the Council, Cllr Teresa Needham. I am grateful to them for organising this really informative and enjoyable event for the town and express my appreciation to all who were involved.

Later on I attended the Stapleford Community Safety Fair organised by Cllr Richard MacRae. At the event people kindly donated bicycles to Treetops Hospice as they refurbish the bikes and raise funds for their excellent cause. I also had the opportunity to catch up with the local police who were in attendance. I believe it is vital we invest in community safety across Broxtowe and only by all agencies and organisations working in partnership can we achieve this.

Also on Saturday I visited Little Drivers Soft Play Centre to hear about how they have benefited from the Government’s Kickstart Scheme. It is great to see local businesses in Broxtowe making use of this initiative which is helping to provide local employment opportunities.

Constituency Office

Following the easing of restrictions I am delighted to be able to reopen my Constituency Office in Stapleford. The office will be open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10am and 4 pm. Please press the intercom for attention. If myself or my team are not available we will be working for the constituents of Broxtowe elsewhere.

As ever, I will still be available to meet with constituents. Should you wish to book a surgery appointment, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me by emailing darren.henry.mp@parliament.uk. Alternatively please feel free to call on our temporary office number 07553839428, or write to me at 168 Derby Road, Stapleford, Nottingham, NG9 7AY.

Visiting Parliament

If you are a constituent in Broxtowe, it would be a privilege to welcome you for a tour of the Houses of Parliament (also known as the Palace of Westminster). The tour offers an in depth look into the history of the estate and a first-hand insight into how Parliament works.

Parliament arranges tours which can be booked here: https://www.parliament.uk/visiting/. I would be happy to meet you during your tour should I be available at that particular time and when Parliament is in session.

I look forward to welcoming you to the Palace!

As recess continues I look forward to being out and about in Broxtowe meeting with constituents and local groups to assist with any issues or concerns they may have. I have an exciting and busy fortnight ahead meeting with a range different organisations all playing their part for the constituency and as always I am keen to offer my support.

I will continue to communicate with you through fortnightly updates.

  1. “I am delighted to be able to advertise my Job Fair on Friday 24th September 2021 – the first of its kind in Broxtowe.”

I am sure that Cllr MacRae will have something to say about that.

  2. 1st of its kind.

I remember Anna Soubry organising a Job Fair and I am currently organising the 19th once I have done in Stapleford which is also part of Broxtowe.

More than a job fair as we also invite training providers and others offering more than just jobs to those who attend.

I also ask that if anyone wants to help to get in touch and if anyone knows anyone who may whish to attend to get in touch so was can have them come along.

Always free to attend as well as I have heard some job fairs charge stall holders to attend.

But the 1st of a kind has baffled me there.
