Restart Grants and Additional Restrictions Grants (ARG) Update

Progress on payments to businesses

The team processing these applications continue to work hard in fully assessing and paying out grants to those eligible as quickly as possible.

Since the 1st April the Council has received over 1000 applications for these grants.

  • 494 businesses have now been paid a total of £3.3m in Restart Grants,
  • A further 281 businesses not eligible for Restart Grants have received a total of £386k through the Additional Restrictions Grant scheme.

Why are payments taking longer than last time?

The Council is required by Government to carry out additional checks and collect more information in this round of grant support, than those previously.

This means that the payment of grants may take longer than previously experienced.

The applications already received are being processed in a chronological order and rest assured, we continue to work as fast as we can to get payments out.

Contacting the Council for an update

If you have an application which is pending, please do not contact the Council for an update.

Any additional correspondence that we respond to will slow down the process of evaluating the applications for everyone and getting payments out.

A significant backlog of grant applications have now been cleared. However, this has meant the grants team is now able to continue processing some of the more complex applications, in particular those into the ARG scheme, which often require additional information and/or evidence from applicants following their initial submission.

Where additional information is required, the Council will make contact with your business directly, once your application has been further reviewed.

We cannot expedite any element of the checking process, nor fast track any applications. We fully understand the importance of these grants to the businesses in Broxtowe.


Gigabit Voucher Scheme

As part of the wider £5b ‘Project Gigabit’ programme, the UK Gigabit Broadband Voucher will provide micro grants of up to £3,500 for businesses in the hardest to reach rural areas (with current speeds of less than 100Mbps) to support the cost of installing new gigabit-capable connections when part of a group scheme.

Skills Access Hub

Skills Access Hub

Businesses can now access free impartial advice from experienced Skills Advisors and develop action plans to close skills gaps within the workforce.

The plan could focus on upskilling the existing team, or look at ways to bring new skills and capacity into the business via apprenticeships, Kickstart, internships and/or graduate placements.

The dedicated team of Skills Advisers work with businesses on a one-to-one basis, to ensure support it tailored and responsive to business needs.
