Today we heard the news that HRH the Duke of Edinburgh passed away at the age of 99. Prince Philip has given a lifetime of service to our country and has been a rock and confidante of Her Majesty the Queen through over 70 years of marriage. He was a veteran of WWII as well as the longest-serving consort in British history. Above all, he will be remembered for demonstrating an extraordinary commitment to this country and dedicating his life to the service of others. He will be greatly missed by many.
My thoughts are with Her Majesty the Queen today. I know the nation will mourn along with her.
Out of respect for the Duke and his family, the Conservative Party has suspended all political and campaign activities. For this reason, you will not see us campaigning or delivering leaflets in Broxtowe at this time.
For the same reason, my usual weekly update will be delayed by a few days in order to avoid putting out campaign or political content at this time. I will be in touch soon to update you on what I have been doing locally, as usual.
Parliament will be recalled on Monday, when MPs will pay tribute to the life of Prince Philip in the House of Commons.
Thank you for understanding.
