Changes to recycling centre opening times

Recycling centre

As we head into Winter, the nights draw in and so do our recycling centre opening hours.

From 1 November to the end of February 2021 recycling centres across Nottinghamshire will be open 8am to 4pm daily, apart from Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day when all sites are closed.

Social distancing restrictions are still in place so there may be queues at busy times, help make your visit to a site quicker by:

  • sorting the waste into different materials before visiting
  • flattening cardboard boxes

Don’t forget our recycling centres are only for resident’s household waste, no waste generated by businesses or tradespeople is accepted onsite.

Roast it.

Bake it.

Puree it.

Compost it.

Or give the seeds to the birds – don’t waste your pumpkin this year.

Help to reduce the food waste created across Nottinghamshire this Halloween period!

Try something different with your pumpkin leftovers

Pumpkin soup recipe

Pumpkins are everywhere over the Halloween period, and last year more than 8 million of them headed for the bin after all Hallows Eve.

It’s predicted over 12 million will be wasted this year!

But don’t let this fantastic vegetable just be carved, let it be dinner too with this Hearty Pumpkin and Bean Soup.

We’d love to see photos if you make this at home! Share on social media and use #NottsRecycles.

Did you know?

Does all the recycling just get sent to landfill?

Recycling collections in Nottinghamshire do not go to waste. Fact.

All your cans, tins, aerosols, plastic bottles, margarine tubs, yoghurt pots, paper and card are transported to the Materials Recovery Facility in Mansfield where they are sorted and sent on to reprocessors to be made into new items.

Don’t forget to collapse your cardboard

image of flattened cardboard box

More and more of us are buying online, and with Christmas fast approaching this is likely to increase more due to the current situation with coronavirus.

With this in mind we want to remind everyone in Nottinghamshire that their cardboard can be taken to their local Recycling Centre as well as going in your kerbside recycling bin.

If you decide to head to a recycling centre to dispose of your cardboard help make your trip quicker – collapse all boxes and remove the tape where possible so the boxes can easily be posted into the recycling containers on site.
