Dumped again!

Earlier this week we reported on appalling fly tipping in Stapleford. Read our post shared by Sue Rogers on BramcoteNG9 Facebook page.

Now Nottinghamshire Live have reported a repeat offence!

A Nottinghamshire mum has explained how she caught ‘brazen’ fly-tippers dumping rubbish outside a gate to her farm.

Sue Rogers, 54, said mess had already been left in the same spot on Monday afternoon (June 1) when she saw two men adding to the pile.

“There was a car with its boot open and the door open and two men, both had got protective masks on – I assume either because they were Covid-19 aware or because they had been clearing a house or whatever,” she said.

“Both of them were putting bags into the pile of stuff that was already there.

“I did say to them ‘what are you doing?’ To which he sort of looked at me and then said ‘that’s got nothing to do with us’ or ‘we haven’t put that there’. To which I said ‘no, but even if you didn’t, you are putting extra stuff there, what are you doing?’

“Him and his friend continued to put it on. I said ‘right, just whatever you’re putting, take it away’.

“He just said ‘no’. By then my partner had come out and took the photograph (of the scene).

“I couldn’t take the photograph while I was trying to talk to them. They then both just got in the car and took off.”

Explaining the timeline of events, she said she was alerted to a ‘loud noise’ at about 3.50pm on Monday.

Her son James, 20, who works in a fish and chip shop, first noticed rubbish outside the gate, off Sidings Lane, in Bramcote, and the family were ‘horrified’ to find the initial load.

The family were later alerted to the second incident, at about 4.30pm, as the men added bags to the pile of rubbish.

HR consultant Ms Rogers said: “I can only assume that it’s a massive coincidence if somebody was just driving past on the way to the tip and thought ‘there’s a load of rubbish I’ll dump it there’.

“They knew that the other people had dumped stuff there, I assume they were from the same house clearance and came to the same spot to put their rubbish in the same place. Why would you otherwise? How would you even know?

“I think it’s part of the same thing – for it to happen literally twice in less than half an hour, I can’t see that’s a coincidence.”

She described the incident as ‘brazen’, adding: “It was just completely blatant, in the middle of the day – I have no idea what they were thinking. There’s just no need for it is there really? I don’t know why people do it.”

Speaking about the overall mess dumped, Ms Rogers said furniture, a fridge and “nappies that were full of stuff” had been left.

The incident was reported to Broxtowe Borough Council.

Following Monday’s report local Bramcote Councillor, David Watts, said “If we can identify who did this then we will be pushing for a prosecution.” and Stapleford Councillor, Richard MacRae advised, “Having been made aware of this yesterday I also spoke to the Leader and Deputy Leader of Broxtowe Borough Council and glad to see it has all been cleared away today. Thank you to the others who also reported it.”

  1. Sidings Lane is in Stapleford not Bramcote. It is in the Stapleford North Ward which I represent on both Stapleford Town Council and Broxtowe Borough Council. Just like Bramcote Crematorium is also in Stapleford and not in Bramcote.
