Update from Darren Henry MP

VE Day, PPE4NHS, Cyber Security & more

One of the things I do as your MP is to connect people and I introduced Martin Molloy, District Manager for Broxtowe Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service to Malcolm Healey, PPE4NHS Co-ordinator.  I am so pleased to hear the news that Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service will be working closely with PPE4NHS allowing 18 Fire Stations across the County, including ours in Broxtowe, to serve as drop-off centres for donated PPE.  Contact the team at ppe4nhs@hotmail.com to find out how you can donate any spare PPE.  I will continue to work with local authorities and organisations, along with colleagues in Government, to ensure that Broxtowe gets through these difficult times. I have just watched the Coronavirus: Downing Street briefing today.  Robert Jenrick, Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, who has visited Stapleford twice in the last 6 months, said, “The 100 towns benefiting from our £3.6 billion Towns Fund will continue to receive our support. And we will be working at pace with them in the months ahead.”  Stapleford is one of those 100 towns in line to receive up to £25 million worth of investment.  https://www.darrenhenry.org.uk/campaigns/stapleford-towns-fund

Councillor Milan Radulovic MBE, Leader of Broxtowe Borough Council, and I have regular catch-ups.  Today we talked, among other things, about the 75th Anniversary of Victory in Europe on 8th May.  Sadly, social distancing means the Council are no longer able to put on this major event as originally planned. We might have to stay at home at the moment, but that does not mean we cannot still mark this momentous occasion. At 11am, The Royal British Legion are encouraging people across all generations and communities in Broxtowe to take part in a national moment of Remembrance and pause for a Two Minute Silence to honour the service and sacrifice of the Second World War generation and reflect on the devastating impact Covid-19 has had on so many lives across the world.  At 3pm there will be a Nation’s Toast To The Heroes Of World War II. Broxtowe Borough Council have invited residents to take part in ‘virtual’ VE Day celebrations www.broxtowe.gov.uk/veday75.  I plan to finish my day by joining the UK-wide singalong to Vera Lynn’s ‘We’ll Meet Again’ at 9pm. https://youtu.be/kY0MryGR6H4 Many of us are spending more time online in Broxtowe.  Keep yourself and your family secure by following advice from the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) https://www.ncsc.gov.uk/cyberaware/home

Stay home. Stay connected. Stay Cyber Aware.
