Core Strategy Inspector Decision, Adoption and Legal Challenge 

Aligned Core Strategies: Inspector’s report released on 24th July 2014


On the 24th July 2014 the inspector released her report (.pdf) (274KB) (Opens in a New Window)on the Aligned Core Strategies. The Inspector found the Councils’ plans to be sound subject to the Main Modifications. (.pdf) (311KB) (Opens in a New Window)

The inspector fully endorsed Broxtowe’s approach to the strategic planning for the Borough including supporting development allocations at Boots and Field Farm, Stapleford. The inspector also supported the Toton area as a strategic location for growth and endorsed the housing numbers and distribution for the remaining parts of the Borough.


On 17th September 2014 Full Council considered the recommendations of the inspector (.pdf) (11.3MB) (Opens in a New Window)and resolved to formally adopt the Core Strategy as the first part of the Local Plan.

Legal Challenge

A legal challenge to the Aligned Core Strategies was submitted to Broxtowe Borough, Gedling Borough and Nottingham City Councils. The challenge was subject to a High Court Hearing which took place in March 2015. The High Court Judgment (.pdf) (148KB) (Opens in a New Window)found in favour of the three councils and the Aligned Core Strategy therefore remains as adopted.
