Transport Minister Nusrat Ghani has agreed to visit Beeston Station in response to a campaign to improve the station’s accessibility. The campaign was started by Broxtowe’s MP Anna Soubry and the Friends of Beeston Station (FOBS) who have already assisted East Midlands Trains with an application to the Department for Transport for funding for the works. Anna also secured a parliamentary debate on the topic on 12th September 2018 which can be read in full here.
Disabled passengers using Beeston Station currently have to change platform via the road bridge which is a half kilometre trip and takes 13 minutes by mobility scooter. Anna and FOBS have asked for funding to install lifts in order to make Beeston Station accessible for all.
Anna said: “I’m delighted that the Minister has agreed to visit Beeston Station so that she can see the problems faced by passengers first hand. FOBS have done an excellent job at improving the look of the station however we now need to make sure Beeston gets the funding it needs to make the station accessible for all.”
