ARREST: Guns and drugs recovered after report of suspicious activity in Bramcote

August 9, 2018

A man has been arrested following a report of suspicious activity at an address in Bramcote.

Two men were seen filling a van with green plants outside an address in Chesham Drive at about 11.45am yesterday (Wednesday 8 August 2018).

Officers arrived to find a van on a driveway which contained about 10 cannabis plants in the back. When officers searched the property they found cannabis growing equipment inside and while searching a garage they recovered five handguns and the components of two other handguns.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of intent to supply a Class B drug and being in possession of a firearm without a valid certificate. He remains in police custody.

Detective Constable Fiona McVey said: “We wouldn’t have recovered the cannabis or the firearms without the information from the member of the public.

“Information from the local community is vital to our work and can help us enormously in making progress in our investigations. As the eyes and ears of the local community, residents often have key information which can help us identify offenders and ensure they are brought to justice.

“I would like to thank the member of the public and reassure the local community that we have a man in custody and we are continuing with our enquiries.

“The firearms and ammunition we recovered will be forensically examined as part of our ongoing investigation.”

If you have information about suspected criminal activity in your area, call Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

  1. I have asked Broxtowe Borough Council Public Protection to ensure the Police have reassured immediate neighbours that all has been done for their protection following this incident. The lesson certainly has been learnt that a vigilant neighbourhood can help stop potential crime and bring perpetrators to justice. To those who acted so promptly on this occasion our’ grateful thanks’
