Travellers on Bramcote Park

Councillor Richard MacRae writes: Having been made aware Travellers were setting up on Bramcote Park, I called the Leader of Broxtowe Borough Council to make him aware then drove up there myself.

I was soon joined by Bramcote Councillor Martin Plackett and the two of us spoke to the Travellers.

They have told us they will be staying until 12-2pm on Saturday. But one of them said they will be staying for a week.

We have been told the Legal Officers from Broxtowe Borough Council are on the way yo serve them a notice to move.

If I get an update I will let you know.

“The Council has been made aware of travellers on the car park at Bramcote Hills Park. The Council is taking steps to evict the travellers. It is anticipated that the Hemlock Happening event will still go ahead as planned tomorrow and we look forward seeing many of our residents there tomorrow to enjoy the activities on offer.”

I have just been up tp the park – all clear except for some rubbish bags by the bins. Could have been so much worse.
Thank you to the timely efforts of Richard and Martin. Personally, for me, it’s not the politics that matters, but having councillors who achieve results! Bramcote and Stapleford benefit from the tireless actions of these councillors.

    • Councillor Richard MacRae says:

Thank you Sue for your kind words.

I would also like to thank Councillor Richard Jackson and the Legal Department at Broxtowe Borough Council for the swift enforcement action they took.

I would also like to thank the Travellers who I spoke to as they were nice and polite and having spent a good hour on site I found them a real interesting group of people. They lead a different lifestyle to what many of us do but at the end of the day they are all human beings and should not be treated any differently.

      • Pat Ratcliffe says:

Great comment, Richard, Many think so negatively about people different from ourselves. But they never take the trouble to engage with them.

  3. Cllr Martin Plackett Bramcote Ward BBC says:

May I add my thanks to Broxtowe’s legal team for the speed of action over the issue. Like Richard I too found the travellers very interesting to engage with when we met them last evening.
The clearing of the site will enable the Hemlock Happening to proceed unhindered. Look forward to seeing a large number of folk enjoying themselves tomorrow on Bramcote Park.
