  1. Ian Tyler says:

I think the Lib -Dem manifesto presented by Steve Carr answers the comments made by Paul N. et al regarding fracking – comments and criticisms need to be informed to enable a balanced response.

“oppose commercial scale fracking unless it is shown conclusively that alternative power sources will not meet the power needed and that the environment would not be harmed”

    • RichHartman says:

Does that mean nuclear power generation is better or worse for the environment, & in terms of risk to health, than fracking?

  2. Ian Tyler says:

Well Rich, I don’t know. Nuclear power has a long established monitoring system which to date seems to have been effective in the U.K.
Fracking is new technology and has the potential to be dangerous or benificial; that’s why we need
    to have the facts.
I guess it’s a bit like G M modifications of which, at heart, I’m wary.
The standard response on all moves away from the status quo tends to be negative: a combination of genuine concern and opportunism .
I believe the Lib-Dems have been cautious in their approach, awaiting the details of the test bores.
