BROXTOWE BOROUGH MEDIATION SERVICE SUCCESS

BROXTOWE BOROUGH MEDIATION SERVICE is celebrating a successful year having completed six cases across the East Midlands after they won a tender to provide community mediation services last year.

The work has seen the Mediation Service help local people reach a mutually acceptable solution and end on-going conflict in cases ranging from boundary dispute, car parking and noise.

This contract has also enabled the service to generate an income to reinvest in the service.

One of EMH Homes’ Anti-Social Behaviour Officers said: “I have employed the Broxtowe Borough Mediation Service for the past year for the purpose of helping us to manage cases of anti-social behaviour. Manager, Dawn Partington, was very helpful and professional in helping to set this up and it has been very easy to make referrals using the online form. Referrals have been dealt with promptly with none of the delays in contacting residents that we have experienced with other providers.

Outcomes have been positive in all six cases that have been dealt with no reports of any problems between residents and mediators. Two longstanding difficult cases have been fully resolved resulting in a very cost effective solution. Overall money well spent.”

The legal profession recognise the value of mediation and suggest it is tried before a more formal route is taken. Mediation is a method of conflict resolution that enables the people involved in a conflict to reach a mutually acceptable solution with the help of a neutral third party-the mediator.  Broxtowe Borough Mediation Service (BBMS) exists to provide mediators in the field of neighbour disputes.  It is available to all residents within the borough free of charge.

Broxtowe Borough Mediation Service was established in 1997 to provide an alternative way of resolving conflict and have become an established provider of Community Mediation within the Borough.
