Julian Vilardo and Daniela Barría were finalists in this year’s Tango Mundial in Argentina, a prestigious annual tango competition, which attracts competitors and spectators from all over the world.
They are in the UK as resident teachers with the Oxford Tango Academy and will be running weekly classes in Nottingham for the rest of December. New teachers are expected to take over in January. The workshops will be from 8-10.30pm. There is also a chance to take private lessons. And it could be the perfect Christmas gift.
Nottingham-based tango promoter Lisa Cherry-Downes, of L Tango Promotions, who is UK manager for world renowned tango singer Martin Alvarado, runs Tango in Nottingham, as a voluntary not-for-profit group to encourage more people to dance and learn tango.
She said: “Many people have been in touch with me recently inspired to learn Argentine tango after watching Strictly Come Dancing so this is the perfect opportunity to start learning this amazing dance on the right foot. It is a challenging dance to learn but with good instruction you’ll soon be hooked and then, you’ll never want to stop! You don’t need a partner – just turn up and take part.
“And how about giving a tango lesson or a set of lessons as a Christmas gift? We can provide you with a gift voucher.”
The first class from 8-9pm is for all levels, including complete beginners, and the second class is for intermediate and advanced level dancers from 9.30-10.30pm. The cost £8 or £13 for both.
