Issues on Brookhill Street, Stapleford

Cllr Jacky Williams reports:
This morning, at a full meeting of the Nottinghamshire County Council, I presented a petition, signed online by 358 people and an additional 24 people at a public meeting for the residents of Brookhill Street. The petition asks for the Transport and Highways committee to give consideration and take action on traffic management on Brookhill street in Stapleford. The petitioners and their two County Councillors are asking for a range of measures to be looked at, including limiting speed and restricting the weight of lorries using the road.

Cllr Stan Heptinstall, made the point at the resident’s meeting that as there is access to two primary schools from the street and a nursery at the bottom of the hill, that a 20mph advisory speed limit would be a sensible approach. Other actions, such as preventing cars from parking close to the many junctions, would be another simple action. These and other actions will be discussed in due course by the committee, and Stan and I will keep residents informed.

Some residents are keen to set up a Speed Watch scheme and this is currently being investigated alongside the police.

Thank you for presenting the petition on behalf of the residnets of Brookhill Street as organised by Stapleford Community Group.

It is very sad to read in a letter you have recently had delivered to residents around Brookhill Street that you have given your self credit for handing in this Petition and not mentioned the very people who organised it. Just as in the same letter you mention the public meeting but fail to give credit to those who organised the meeting in the first place.

If the public meeting had not been organised then none of the things you give your self credit for would be taking place .

  3. P. Atkins says:

There is one way of reducing the traffic on Brookhill Srreet, and that is to remove the speed humps through Stapleford, by using Brookhill Street you only have to go over one speed hump, and that is why many drivers use it.
