Martin Alvarado

Lisa Cherry-Downes of L Tango Promotions  informs us that Martín Alvarado, the globe-trotting tango troubadour will be singing at Bramcote Memorial Hall, on Saturday July 9. Tickets are available on the door or please see below.

Argentina’s finest tango vocalist will also be performing in Nottingham in July in a late announced whistle-stop three-date tour in England as part of his 35th international tour.

The singer, who is world renowned for his stunning tenor voice and sublime performances, will be accompanying himself on acoustic guitar and will be joined by internationally renowned bandoneon player Carlos Quilici, also from Argentina. He will be singing rarely heard Piazzolla songs as well as some of his own compositions and some tango and South American classics.

He will be performing as the guest of the Tango in Nottingham group in a tour organised by West Bridgford-based promoter L Tango Promotions. As well as an hour long recital from 7pm to 8pm, the two musicians will be performing two more live sets during a tango social dance – a milonga – to be held at Bramcote Memorial Hall from 8pm to 11.30pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend. Details of tickets and prices can be found at

  1. There will also be a demonstration of solo Argentine zamba dancing by a well known zamba dancer from Argentina, Emilce Parga. Zamba in Argentina is not like the upbeat Brazilian variety but a sad/ romantic genre with a dance more like a rumba. People who stay for the live sets during the tango dance party will also be able to see lots of Argentine tango dancing too and in Nottingham the standard of local dancers is very good.
