Michael Trueman, OSNotts Co-ordinator, writes: As part of Open Studios Notts 2016, the ABC Artists Trail is running again this year. The event is on 11-12 June, with 25 artists at 12 venues spread across Attenborough, Beeston and Chilwell. The trail leads visitors around a wealth of creativity in this inspirational local community, showcasing a selection of work by local artists and craftspeople. Details are at www.osnotts.co.uk/abc-artists-trail (Map below shows locations).
More broadly, ‘Open Studios Notts’ is a showcase of local talent that most people are probably unaware is on their doorstep. During the months of May and June, residents of Nottinghamshire and beyond have a rare opportunity to see inside the studios and workshops of artists and makers, and see the spaces where they create their beautiful work. In its fifth year, Open Studios Notts is pleased that the programme for Spring 2016 is even bigger than before, with over 300 artists participating in 60 venues across Nottinghamshire and Nottingham. As well as providing opportunities to discover locally produced art and craft, visitors can informally meet with and talk to the artists about their work – how they make it, what inspires them and how they started off. In addition to individual artists opening their working studios and groups of artists joining together to form trails, there are also bigger art festival events at Lady Bay, Retford and Wysall, where between 50 and 100 artists come together over a weekend. There are also exhibitions: at Patchings Art Centre’s ‘Barn Gallery’ (near Calverton), where there is work by over 50 open studios artists until 30 May, and at satellite exhibitions in 4 county libraries – Worksop, Arnold, West Bridgford and Southwell, each running to 5 June.
Open Studios Notts is a volunteer-led, not-for-profit initiative that works in partnership with Inspire, Nottinghamshire County Council, Nottingham City Council and private support.
