The Road to Rio

Elaine Morris writes: At the end of November 2015 many thousands of people all over the world were anxiously scanning emails as the organisers of Rio Olympics 2016 were about to announce the selection of their volunteers.

I am pleased and proud to say that I received one of those emails.

After volunteering for London 2012, I wanted to do more big events, so I also did Glasgow Commonwealth Games and applied for Rio. Being able to say I was Team Host for Brazil at the Cerebral Palsy World Games was an interesting part of my Rio interview at the end of August.

I am still checking emails daily as I am waiting for the details of my allocated role and location. I am realistic about the difficult hurdles still to be tackled, particularly finding accommodation, but I am happy, for now, to celebrate my selection, looking forward to the day I can state “I am going to Rio”

Is there anyone reading this who has also been selected, or knows someone who has?

Important update. I have received my role for the Paralympics, scoreboard operator in the athletics stadium, but still haven’t got a shift rota! Last night I was also offered a role for the Olympics, which would mean being there in less 3 weeks! I don’t think that is going to happen. Still looking for accommodation.
