The event, on Thursday 2nd October, part of Older Persons Week, is aimed at helping older people get to grips with new technology such as iPads.
Between 10.00am and 4.00pm, Council Officers will be showing visitors how to do a host of online activities to make their lives easier including:
Keeping in touch with friends and relatives, (skype)
Mobile phone texting
Paying bills online
Saving money by using comparative sites and booking on line
Keeping the brain active by playing games
Finding out all the latest celebrity gossip using of social media
Catching up on those TV programmes you may have missed iplayer
Not forgetting the wonderful Broxtowe website! With all the latest news on what is happening in your area!
Tea and biscuits will also be on offer throughout the day.
This year’s Older People’s Day marks the eighth annual event, which celebrates the contribution older people make to society and encourage different generations to share their skills and experience to create better understanding and respect.
A wide range of other events will take place between Monday 29th September and Saturday 4th October across Broxtowe Borough Council’s Retirement Living Schemes to celebrate the contributions older people make to the local community and help combat negative attitudes and outdated stereotypes of older people.
Broxtowe Borough Council’s Retirement Living Schemes offer self-contained flats or bungalows for people aged 60 or over to maintain their independence and freedom, whilst providing security and peace of mind with 24-hour access to an emergency Control Centre and a Retirement Living Officer during office hours.
Weekly entertainment is organised for all residents within each of the schemes including, games nights, craft activities, fitness sessions, organised day trips, film nights and much more.
