Students from Nottingham Trent University are inviting local people to get online to see seven videos they have produced to promote the work of Broxtowe Borough Council and its partner organisations.

The Media Practice students have worked closely with Council employees to produce four videos to promote a range of services and activities, including a video to promote the Council’s Retirement Living Service; a video in Chinese and English to promote recycling; a video on why and how people can get involved in democracy and a discussion and training tool for Councilllors on how to chair a meeting.

The students have also worked with the Council’s partners to develop three additional videos including videos to highlight the work of Hope Nottingham and NHS Choose Well, with a further video on Broxtowe Youth Homelessness,to be added shortly.

The videos, which are part of the students’ final year assignments, were showcased at premiere event last Friday, attended by Mayor of the Borough of Broxtowe, Councillor Iris White, council employees, lecturers and peers.

Leader of the Council, Councillor Milan Radulovic said: “This is the second year that the Council and its partners have worked with Media Practice students as part of this initiative.”

“We hope that local people get online to watch the videos to see the fantastic work the students have done and to learn about some of the valuable services both the Council and its partners offer.”

Georgia Stone, Lecturer in Media Practice at Nottingham Trent University, said: “This has been an invaluable experience for our students who have had the chance to work with professionals across Broxtowe Borough Council to produce these videos. It enhances their employability and gives them a glimpse into the world of work that awaits them. It is also an opportunity to contribute to their wider community and to offer their skills and knowledge to help make a real difference. We are looking forward to working with Broxtowe Borough Council again on this productive partnership.”

To view the videos, visit Broxtowe Borough Council’s YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/broxtowebc

Phillip Horsfield, Head of Legal Services,Broxtowe Borough Council writes: Broxtowe Borough Council is looking to appoint an Independent Person to assist the Council’s Monitoring Officer to assess allegations of misconduct against either a Member of this Council or of a Parish/Town Council in the area and to decide on a course of action. The Independent Person may also be consulted by and need to consult with the member about whom an allegation has been made.

The successful candidate will be committed to achieving a high standard of behaviour in public affairs, be able to understand complicated facts, be able to express views clearly and ask relevant questions, have no obvious political affiliation and no recent political activity. Experience of adjudication or investigation of complaints, an appreciation of the pressure on councillors and public services generally or experience of dealing with standards investigations would be an advantage.

The Localism Act 2011 prevents members and officers of the Council, their relatives and close friends from being an Independent Person. However this is circulated as it is recognised that Councillors and Parish Councils are likely to be aware of individuals who would be interested in this role

The Independent Person may be required to attend hearing meetings, which are usually held in the early evening. Full training will be provided for the successful applicant and a small allowance will be paid.

An application pack is available at http://www.broxtowe.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=1622 If you are interested in this role and would like an informal conversation then please contact, Phillip Horsfield, Head of Legal Services, Broxtowe Borough Council, Council Offices, Foster Avenue, Beeston, Nottingham NG9 1AB on 0115 9173230.

Closing date for applications is 7th June 2013.

Press Release from Anna Soubry: Transport Minister, Simon Burns MP, has visited Broxtowe today (Wednesday May 22nd) with local MP Anna Soubry to see the proposed route of Phase Two of HS2 through the constituency. As part of the trip, Simon visited Toton Sidings, where the East Midlands hub and station is planned, Strelley Village, Trowell and Nuthall, which will be affected by the route.

Speaking of the visit, Anna said: “HS2 has been widely welcomed on the basis that it will provide growth and jobs, as well as quick access to London, Birmingham and Leeds. This is another example of investment in our infrastructure, which has been a Government priority, with the dualling of the A453, electrification and improvement to Midland Mainline and the extension of the tram through Beeston to Chilwell and Toton.”

“HS2 is a long way off but the public consultation process starts at the end of the year and houses on the preferred route have been notified with offers of compensation. However, there is considerable local concern at the route, most notably in Strelley Village, Nuthall and Trowell so I took Simon to those parts of the constituency as well as Toton Sidings.”

“I have already met with villagers at Strelley, who are concerned at the impact on their lovely environment and I spoke at length to Simon about their fears. I understand that a boxed tunnel is planned for this section of the route, as well as cuttings for the tracks, which will lessen the impact of HS2 on the village.

“At Nuthall, the plan is to elevate the line to run parallel with the M1, in order to limit the effect on nearby properties. Nevertheless, there is considerable concern from local residents, so I took the Minister to Nottingham Road so that he could see the impact for himself. Simon was keen to assure me that there will be full consultation and resident’s concerns will be taken into account”.

Chris Archer (Police, PCSO 4662, Stapleford (Broxtowe South) writes: Since the 1st April there have been 8 dwelling burglary offences in the Bramcote beat area, this is 4 more offences than the same period last year. The burglaries have happened in a wide area of the beat and have not been targeted around a specific area of Bramcote as has happened previously. There have been 2 houses broken into on Thoresby Road and one house broken into on the following streets Latimer Drive, Beeston Fields Drive, Derby Road, Balmoral Drive, Cow Lane and Windermere Road. In 3 of the 8 offences entry has been gained by either an unlocked door or garage at the property whilst the occupants have been out, 3 have been by the offenders forcing entry to the property, one has seen entry gained by firstly breaking into an integral garage and finally in one of the offences the homeowner disturbed the offender trying to break in. One male has been arrested in connection with one of the burglary offences and is on bail pending further enquiries.

With this information in mind please ensure that your property is secure and locked at all times and can I please ask that you take a minute to read the leaflet below and review your own home security measures.

Officers from the local beat team are currently conducting a number of enquiries in relation to these offences and they are also conducting a large amount of crime prevention work. This will result in a number of houses in Bramcote being visited and further home security advice being issued.

Regards

PCSO Archer
