Readers of Bramcote Today might be interested in this quote from Cllr Watts which was made on on 24th July 2008 in the Ilkeston Advertiser:-

Liberal Democrat prospective Parliamentary candidate David Watts said: "We are particularly disturbed about the possible loss of land to the north of Stapleford.

"Field Farm helps separate Stapleford from Trowell, and the Nottingham canal and the area that surrounds it is a beautiful asset that is enjoyed by many thousands of the residents of our borough.

"The greenbelt designation serves a valuable function in separating the different communities in Broxtowe, Erewash and on to Derby. In taking this view we are in accord with a recent inspector's report that recommends retention of greenbelt land to the west of Nottingham."

John - we did. I have received more comments from Bramcote residents in support of the Core Strategy than against it, far more. This is in sharp contrast to a Conservative Toton Councillor who declared that Toton people weren't interested in what happened. The three Toton councllors also voted against an amendment to say that the maximum open space in Toton should be preserved. Unfortunately your new friends in the Conservative party were whipped to oppose a strategy that a number of them realsied was the best deal that we could get for the whole of Broxtowe. I suspect that this is why a number of them simply chose not to attend!

It's all very well Nick commenting on UKIP's success in the recent by-elections and I'm not saying he's right or wrong but what needs to be considered is why so many people voted for UKIP.
There are a few reasons but there are two outstanding reasons. One, obviously is the unfettered immigration which Tony Blair is responsible for.
The other reason which myself and many other people recognise is the fact that since 1972 successive governments and members thereof have continually and consistently lied to the British public.
Right back before Ted Heath took us into the then EEC, then known as the common market we were told it was nothing more than a trading agreement. Harold Wilson carried on the same deceit when he held the referendum in 1975.
Take this right upto Cameron's cast iron pledges and promise to overhaul and reform the Human Rights Act.
But by far the biggest lie was told by Labour MP Peter Hain when he said The Lisbon Treaty was just a tidying up exercise.
Well The Lisbon Treaty was initially called a constitution and the unelected, unaccountable and undemocratic EU commission suddenly realised that to keep calling it a constitution would necessitate referenda in many EU member states....Yes, that word referenda, the most hated, despised, detested, dreaded and feared word in EU circle,s so they had to change the title to treaty which could be imposed without referring to the public.
That deceit Nick is why so many folks voted the way they did and whether this trend towards UKIP will continue at the next election only time will tell but the way the Tories, Lib Dems and Labour are burying their heads in the sand and sticking two fingers up to the British public I see no reason why UKIP should not get its first parliamentary seat.
