The grass verges have been cut again on Bramcote Moor, the work having been delayed yet again by the weather. One wonders, though, if it was worth the effort. The standard of the completed job is appalling.
A relative of mine lives in Portsmouth and the verges outside her house which are maintained by Portsmouth City Council are immaculate in comparison and they clear up any cuttings that stray onto the pavements. If Portsmouth can do a good job, why can’t Nottinghamshire County Council?

Aren’t there greater things in life to be getting upset about than just uncut grass verges? If the residents who live near these are that bothered, what’s to stop them getting on and cutting themselves? And for goodness sake, who gives a tinkers cuss what happens in Portsmouth?
Most people in Bramcote keep their gardens tidy. Some do cut the grass verges outside their properties and will cut the verge outside a neighbours’ property. However as we all get older we cannot always cut the grass verges. Residents sometimes employ gardeners but may not be willing to pay them to also cut the grass verges. We pay our Council Tax and expect our Council to look after the Verges and Roads.
Tidy verges and roads in general are a sign that our community is a good place to live. If our grass verges and roads are left a mess then the reverse is/may be true.
Steve – I’m tempted to say that it’s because Portsmouth has a Lib-Dem Council but Notts has a Tory one. David
David – Yes, I hoped you’d say that. Portsmouth City Council has been in Lib Dem hands since 2009. I hope that Bramcote’s Lib Dem County Councillors will follow their lead and, although not in power in Nottinghamshire, will press the County Council to improve their performance on this important issue. Run down looking areas quickly spiral down. I hope I can rely on this pressure being applied. Steve
Hi Steve, I’ve already seen the correspondence so I can assure you that pressure is already being applied. Sadly some of the officers at the County seem to display a couldn’t care less attitude.
